Keanu Reeves And Jason Statham Making A Movie Together For Netflix

John Wick’s Keanu Reeves And Expendables’ Jason Statham will be teaming up to star together for a Netflix movie titled The Redemption.

While Reeves has done action before in films such as The Matrix, Speed, and Point Break, none of these are on the same level of intensity as his most recent franchise, John Wick. Statham, on the other hand, keeps on making action films non-stop with Fast X, Meg 2 and The Expendables 4 are set to release this year.

So, it would be interesting to see that they’ll be paired together for the first time.

A report from Giant Freakin Robot tells us that the Matrix star and Crank star would be joining for a Netflix film called The Redemption. The movie is said to be directed by D.J. Caruso, who is known for films like Disturbia (2007), I Am Number Four (2011), Eagle Eye (2008), and xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017).

The movie is about reformed criminals who team together to take down a corrupt police officer. It’s not sure if the film will depict them as partners in crime or if it was more of a chance situation where they all have similar goals and have the opportunity to work together.

There is also a question as to who will be the other members of the team that will be with the two throughout the movie. As current films go, could this venture also open a new franchise for Netflix, much like Rian Johnson’s Knives Out?

It is uncertain whether the movie will be an action film, a buddy film, or a comedy. In any case, both actors are very flexible when need be. While we’ve seen Keanu Reeves play dramatic roles, he’s also done comedy. Jason Statham has no problem making fun of his typecast roles like in Spy.

Nevertheless, it is pretty clear that the movie is showcasing Reeves and Statham as a duo of leads. The possibility for this pair will be endless, considering the broad range of their experience in movie genres. Immediate reactions indicate positive anticipation for the project in development. Some speculate it to be already a “fun ride”. As both actors could be very intense in action, both can also be charming and funny, given the suitable material.

Caruso took a break from directing after the xXx sequel. While the film did well at the box office, it was not received well by critics and audiences.

But he has since made a comeback and released two films in 2022. Although Shut In and Redeeming Love received unfavourable reviews from critics, the response from the general audience has been positive, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of no less than 94%. He is a versatile director; he’s done romance, thrillers, action films, horror, sports drama and others.

Netflix tends to prioritise projects that will garner significant attention (sometimes not in a good way). Getting Reeves and Statham in one film could get some attention for sure. While it’s clear that D.J. Caruso is no stranger to action films, his collaboration with actors who have different backgrounds in the genre presents an intriguing opportunity. It would be good to see him back in a genre that he is known for.

Keanu Reeves has already filmed his return as John Wick in Ana de Armas’ Ballerina, directed by Len Wiseman. Reeves is currently working to make the DC movie Constantine 2 a reality.

Meanwhile Jason Statham is currently filming The Beekeeper which is directed by Suicide Squad’s David Ayer. The action star is said to star in Paul Feig’s Spy 2.
