If you’ve wondered why Frank Castle/The Punisher was not invited to be part of the MCU, you’re not alone.

As Jon Bernthal, the actor who played the character so memorably is equally mystified.

In an interview with Jakes’s Takes, Bernthal, along with Shea Whigham and John Pollono, spoke about their film, Small Engine Repair.

Speculation as to whether Marvel would integrate characters from the cancelled Netflix shows, into the MCU, has been plentiful.

Indeed, there has been lots of debate as to whether shows like Daredevil, or A.G.E.N.T.S Of Shield, are MCU canon.

This debate has only been fueled by consistent rumours that Charlie Cox was set to reprise his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the MCU.

During the interview, Bernthal was asked as to why The Punisher never got the MCU treatment:

I don’t know, man. If they’re talking about it, they’re not including me in the conversation, you know what I mean? That’s all above my pay grade. I wouldn’t tell you even if I could.

Should those Daredevil rumours prove to be true, it would surely open a door for Frank Castle to join the MCU.

With Marvel is planning to integrate the R-rated Deadpool into their all-encompassing universe, there’s surely a place for the big-bad Punisher.

Let’s hope Marvel are soon on the phone with Bernthal to talk about reprising the role of Frank Castle.
