Jason Momoa May Quit Aquaman Role After Aquaman 2

It’s being reported that Jason Momoa might end up calling it a day playing Aquaman after the release of Aquaman 2 (Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom), which would be a huge deal! However, it’s being reported that DC Studios has something else in mind for Momoa after this upcoming sequel, and the rumours about their plans for the actor have me quite excited.

So, according to The Hollywood Reporter, there are plans to have Momoa step away from the role of Arthur Curry after the release of Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. But don’t fear – there does seem to be method in DC Studios’ madness. According to THR’s article, Momoa would still be a “pivotal figure” in the new plans for the DCU moving forward. What on Earth does that mean?

According to certain sources, the idea is to have Momoa lead a new franchise in the DC Universe, and I’ll give you one guess which character James Gunn and Peter Safran have in mind for the actor… That’s right, it’s Lobo! Momoa himself has revealed in the past that he’s a huge fan of the DC anti-hero, and this could easily be DC Studios’ answer to Deadpool, and I think he’d be perfect in the role. There is literally no one else in Hollywood who could play Lobo better than Momoa.

There have been rumours for quite some time now that DC Films and Warner Bros were planning on making a Lobo movie. However, it seems as though they just couldn’t find the right actor for the job, and that might have been because they already had the perfect person for the job – he was just playing another DC character. That person was Momoa, of course.

So, the big question here is, are James Gunn and Peter Safran planning on making a Lobo movie? Well, that’s what all the signs are pointing towards. During an interview with ET Canada, Momoa had this to say about the future of the DCU under Gunn and Safran’s leadership:

I think with Peter Safran and Mr. Gunn at the helm now at DC, I’m very excited about that. There are a lot of cool things that are going to be coming up and one of my dreams come true will be happening under their watch, so stay tuned.

Moreover, Momoa then revealed during an interview with ComicBook.com that he’s a big fan of the comic books and teased that there’s one character he’d love to play. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

Well, everyone knows I’m a comic book fan. The comic I collected the most, and I have every comic there is… you can do your research and find out what it is.

So, it does seem as though Momoa’s dream of playing Lobo in live-action is going to come true! I hope this happens because I think Lobo is a role that was made for Momoa to play, and I think that he would bring a lot to the DCU. It seems like Gunn and Safran are cooking up something special over at DC Studios!
