James Wan Wants To Remake Two Cult Horror Movies

James Wan, the legendary horror movie director, has revealed that he wants to remake two horror movie cult classics! Can you guess which movies the filmmaker is interested in remaking?

Well, if you didn’t get it, let me enlighten you. He revealed during an interview with /Film that he wants to remake Chopping Mall and Night of the CreepsIf you haven’t seen either of these movies, then I would highly recommend them.

They are both very bad, but they are in the ‘so-bad-they’re-good’ category of horror movies, at least, as far as I’m concerned. They were both released in the 1980s, which seems to be the best-ever decade for these sorts of horror films.

I also think both films could be made into genuinely good films. Sometimes, the best horror movies are actually remakes of older films, and they can take the core premise of the original film, and really accentuate it and make it bloody terrifying.

Two movies come to mind almost immediately, and they are John Carpenter’s The Thing and David Cronenberg’s The Fly. They were both remakes of older movies, and they ended up being much better than the films they were based on.

Wan has been promoting the horror movie, M3GAN, which he produced, and during his chat with /Film, the filmmaker/producer was asked which horror movies he’d like to remake. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

I have many horror films that I think that are just fun that I love, and I’m pretty sure the horror community shares them with me. I love movies like Chopping Mall. I love Night of the Creeps. These, to me, are just sort of fun horror films that I would love to be able to dive into one day, or do them but with the way that I make my films.

What is he working on next?

I actually think that Wan would be a good choice should there be any talk of remaking Chopping Mall and Night Of The Creeps. I think he would bring something very ‘creepy’ to these films and really expand upon what the two original movies tried to do when they were first released.

However, these potential remakes might have to wait and while, because it looks like Wan will be pretty busy over the next few years. He’s currently hard at work finishing up Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.

Once that movie’s released in cinemas, I’m pretty certain he’ll be done making films for DC Studios and he might move back to making more straight horror films. That said, in between the first and second Aquaman movies, Wan did make the film Malignant, which caused a bit of a stir when it was released.

People seemed to love it, and a lot of people really didn’t take to it at all. I haven’t seen the movie for myself yet, so I can’t offer an opinion on it. It is on my watchlist, which is getting longer by the day!

Wan has also talked about The Conjuring 4, which is apparently going to be the final movie in the Conjuring cinematic universe. I have a feeling that he might want to direct that movie.

The one movie he definitely won’t be making is The Crooked Man, which he revealed has been cancelled by Warner Bros. Pictures, which is a shame.
