James Gunn Stopped One DC Comics Movie From Happening

In a surprising turn of events, it has been revealed that James Gunn, who recently took over DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, has already prevented the development of at least one movie. This news comes as a surprise to many, as Gunn’s plans for the future of the DC Universe (DCU) were believed to encompass a wide range of creative endeavours, including live-action films, television shows, video games, and animated movies.

The revelation was made during an interview with ScreenRant, where producers of the recently released R-Rated Justice League: Warworlds confirmed that DC Studios had prevented the development of at least one movie. The movie in question was an adaptation of the popular DC Comics storyline, “Kingdom Come”.

According to Butch Lukic, one of the producers of Justice League: Warworlds, the team had originally discussed developing “Kingdom Come” after their current project. However, due to “changing regimes”, they were unable to move forward with the adaptation. “Kingdom Come” is a popular storyline set in an alternate reality where a new generation of superheroes takes over after the classic set of heroes retire. The new generation, however, does not uphold the same noble values as their predecessors, leading to a dystopian future.

Future Plans for Kingdom Come

Despite the setback, Lukic mentioned that they might still try to “incorporate it in the future” despite not being able to make an entire movie from it. He suggested that the storyline might be incorporated into the new world that James Gunn is building with DC Studios.
