Jack Black Reveals He’s Retiring Which Means Jumanji: The Next Level Could Be His Last Movie

Jack Black has long been one of my favourite actors working in Hollywood, and it turns out he’s considering retiring from starring in movies.

He’s currently out promoting his next movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, which could end up being the very last movie we’ll see him star in.

Black was in the first Jumanji movie, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle and just cracked me up as Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon, and he’s been cracking me up for years.

I still remember first seeing him in High Fidelity and thinking he was great. He had also starred in movies before that likes The Cable Guy and Mars Attacks!.

Jack Black was even in Demolition Man and Enemy Of The State, both as a kind of geeky tech guys.

Black has gone on to have an incredible career, both as an actor and as a musician with his band Tenacious D alongside Kyle Glass.

Is Jack Black really retiring?

Together the pair of them wrote some of the best songs in the world, including Tribute, and I’ll always love him for that.

Here’s what he told Balance during a recent interview when he was asked about his future:

Well, I’ve got another Tenacious D record that I’d like to make. Maybe one more movie. I’m kind of enjoying the idea of early retirement. Not so early. I’m 50.I’ve been saying for a long time that this is the last movie. We’ll see. I can’t really say what my next thing is because it’s too early; it’s a jinxer. I’ve got a couple of tricks up my sleeve. But not too many. I’m looking to wrap it up pretty soon. Ride off into the sunset.

It sounds like Jack Black won’t call it quits just yet, but he was still insinuating that Jumanji: The Next Level could be his last film as he explained he wanted to spend more time with his family, and working on movies doesn’t allow for that.

Yeah. That is a big part of it. I don’t like going away from Tanya and the boys. I spend too much time away from home. Maybe I’ll do a TV show here in town, so I can work the 9 to 5 and then get back home. We’ll see. I’m not a big five-year plan kind of guy though. I don’t really look down the road. I kind of take it day by day. And if something comes up, you know, obviously if [Quentin] Tarantino comes a-knocking, I’m gonna do that movie! Tarantino likes to talk about doing his last movie too. He says there’s only one movie left. It might be Star Trek. It might be who the hell knows? Maybe I’m going to pull a Tarantino and say, ‘Guys. I’ve done 99 movies. I’m going to do one more. Gonna go out on top!’

So, it sounds like he really wants to be in that rumoured Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie, which needs to happen, so that we can see Jack Black in one more big blockbuster movie before he decides to retire.
