Henry Cavill has opened up about his potential future as James Bond during an interview on Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Happy Sad Confused, and I’m really hoping that the movie’s producers end up casting him in the role. Cavill, just in case you didn’t know, was up for the role before Daniel Craig was cast. During the interview, Cavill revealed that he was told that it was between himself and Craig for the role.
The British actor then went on to reveal that he was the younger option for the role, and in the end, they ended up going with Craig, and the rest is history. Cavill then went on to play Superman and Geralt Of Rivia in The Witcher and is arguably one of the most famous actors working in Hollywood today. He also admitted during the interview that he probably wasn’t ready to play Bond at the time. However, he did open up about whether he’d like to play 007 in the future.

Here’s what Henry Cavill had to say when Josh asked him about playing Bond in the future. Josh started off by revealing that the Bond producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael B. Wilson, are looking for an actor in their 30s to play the British Secret Agent. Cavill joked, “they haven’t got much time”. He then went on to reveal that he’s 39, so he’s just within the time window to play Bond next.
Cavill then continued:
I’m quite busy now. (…) I love those guys – Barabara and Mike. They are wonderful, and I have very fond memories of having cocktails with them, I think at Mike’s house once, and then I had a vesper martini with Barabara, which I thought was fitting because it was for Casino Royale, and it was a really, really fun time, and it was great to be in the mix of that stuff, and so, yeah, whether I’m considered for the role or not, I don’t know, but it would be fun to have the conversation, for sure. And, if I’m not, then I just want to see what they do with it next because I think they’re amazing.
Should he get to play 007 next?
So, to me at least, all this makes me think that Henry Cavill is very much in the mix to play 007. We already know that the franchise’s producers are big fans of the actor, and I don’t really think there’s anyone else working in Hollywood today that could play the role as well as Cavill could. He’s a great on-screen presence and certainly looks the part.
The fact that he got so close to playing Bond in the past is also a good omen for him. The same sort of thing happened with Pierce Brosnan before he got to play the role. He had actually been cast, but then it turned out that the show he was starring in at the time, Remington Steel, had been renewed for another season, which meant that Brosnan had to wait another few years for the opportunity to play 007. The role then went to Timothy Dalton, who played the character in two movies.
