Will A Thrawn Live-Action Series Be Made For Disney Plus?

Star Wars fans love Grand Admiral Thrawn. I would hazard a guess that Thrawn is one of the most popular characters amongst die-hard Star Wars fans.

However, many people who aren’t so invested in Star Wars lore might be scratching their heads thinking, “Who?” when the name Thrawn in mentioned.

Grand Admiral Thrawn was a character made popular in the Expanded Universe Star Wars novels. He was created by Timothy Zahn, who wrote three books which came to be known as the Thrawn Trilogy.

The first book was published in 1991 and was called Heir to the Empire. It detailed how Thrawn began on his journey to becoming known as Grand Admiral Thrawn.

However, these books were no longer considered ‘cannon’ after Disney bought Lucasfilm, and the character went into obscurity.

Yet, his time wasn’t up, as Dave Filoni announced at Star Wars Celebration in London that Thrawn was going to be the main villain in Star Wars Rebels.

The crowd went wild because many people thought Thrawn was never going to be brought into cannon.

Could Thrawn be coming to Disney Plus?

However, there was more good news as it was also announced that Timothy Zahn would be writing another Thrawn book trilogy and this would be in Star Wars canon.

Things have really been looking up for Thrawn and his fans – myself included – have been loving getting to see the iconic Star Wars character more involved.

I recently wrote an article positing whether Matt Smith could be playing Thrawn in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which would explain why his role in the movie has been kept such a secret.

Yet, even if he won’t be in the Star Wars movies, there are now rumours (courtesy of We Got This Covered) that a Thrawn live-action series could be coming to Disney Plus.

According to their sources, Lucasfilm are working on bringing a live-action Thrawn series to life and then putting on Disney’s new streaming service.

Thrawn would make an excellent protagonist for a Star Wars TV show

This would be an incredibly good move if you ask me and would fall in line with the Kenobi live-action series as one of the best decisions Lucasfilm could make right now with the Star Wars franchise.

Thrawn is still a relatively unknown character as far as wider fans are concerned, and he would make an excellent protagonist for a TV show.

He would also allow Star Wars writers to explore the Unknown Regions of the Star Wars universe, which is something they really need to start doing.
