We have our ‘first look’ at Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt in The Witcher. Well, I say our “first look”, it’s actually someone who’s posted a deepfake video on YouTube in which they used some of Henry Cavill’s scenes from the first season of Netflix’s The Witcher and replaced his face with Hemsworth’s.
This does give us a pretty good look at how Liam Hemsworth’s take on the character will end up looking like, and it seems as though die-hard fans of the show are not happy with the results at all.
Take a look at the video below, courtesy of the talented Stryder HD.
It was revealed not too long ago that Henry Cavill would be leaving the show after the upcoming season. That’s going to be the show’s third season, and after that, Geralt Of Rivia will be played by Liam Hemsworth.
Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt in The Witcher is really upsetting fans
This news shocked a lot, if not all, of the show’s fans and left many of us wondering how on Earth they were going to do this change, and also, why. Why was Henry leaving the show? He basically made the show watchable, and there were multiple reports after the news was announced suggesting why Cavill ended up leaving.
I’m not going to go into all of them here, but I strongly feel that Cavill ended up getting rather frustrated with the direction the show’s producers and showrunner wanted to take the series. I also think that Cavill just had too much on his plate with his new job starring in the upcoming Warhammer 40K series for Amazon Prime Video.
He’s also going to be producing the show, as well as helping to set up the Warhammer Cinematic Universe for Amazon Studios. That’s going to be a pretty huge project for Cavill and something that he’s very passionate about. So, it seems as though he wants to dedicate as much time to that as he possibly can.
How will Liam replace Henry Cavill in the show?
I have a feeling that this was the real reason why he left the show. I also think that the show will suffer without Cavill. As I mentioned above, he was carrying that series, and many fans were pretty devastated when it was announced that he would be leaving after Season 3.
We’re going to have to wait and see what ends up happening, but if the reactions to this Liam Hemsworth Geralt Of Rivia deepfake video are anything to go by, they aren’t looking forward to seeing the Aussie in the role.
Here are a few reactions to the video (via GamingBible):
“Great video, but I’m passing on the new Witcher,” one fan wrote. They continued: “Henry was the perfect fit. Not just looks but his dedication to the role and lore.”
Another pointed out: “This looks good because although the face is deep faked, the mannerism and the voice of the character are still Henry Cavill’s. No shade to Liam Hemsworth, but I wonder how the same scenes would have looked with Liam’s mannerisms and gestures.”
Another viewer added: “Liam doesn’t have this kind of older wiser look to him. It’s like Disney version of Geralt. Henry is the perfect match, he is one of us – fans. He was so excited for the whole project. Liam will be trying to replicate the impossible….”
“Without Henry’s Geralt voice I don’t think so. RIP Witcher,” wrote another person.
So, it’s clear for you all to see, Witcher fans aren’t overly keen on the idea of Hemsworth taking over the role from Cavill, and I’m in agreement with them. Cavill gave Geralt a certain amount of grit and world-weary nature that suited the role perfectly.
I’m just not sure whether Liam Hemsworth can pull that off. He’s a bit too, well, clean-cut and doesn’t have the right voice, in my opinion. I am interested in seeing how the series develops, and I wish them all the best of luck, but I have a feeling it’s going to fall flat on its face.
