Black Widow’s release date has already been pushed back twice now.
This is due to the fact that we are in the midst of a global pandemic.
Disney obviously still wants to see their big blockbusters comes to the big screen.
There’s much more money in releasing them in cinemas than bringing them to their streaming services.
That said, some people directly invested in Disney are thinking that they should just put these movies, such as Black Widow, out on Disney Plus.
Should Black Widow be released on Disney Plus?
Here’s what Dan Loeb, the hedge fund manager for Third Point with roughly a $1 billion stake in Disney, had to say about possibly moving Black Widow’s release to Disney Plus (via Variety):
“What Netflix has is this immense subscriber base that allows it to invest in an enormous amount of content and amortize that to get more subscribers,” Loeb said.
“Disney isn’t there yet, but they need to get there as quickly as possible. If they don’t get critical mass in their subscriber base, they will be permanently disadvantaged versus Netflix.”
His whole idea is that it would attract new customers and retain old ones.
