The Best Rom-Com In Decades Is Being Released On Netflix And I Can’t Wait

It’s been revealed that the very best rom-com released in the past decade is coming to Netflix, and this is actually really exciting news. Let me explain why this is a move you should really check out on the streaming platform.

So, the movie in question is Anyone But You, which was released last year and ended up becoming the highest-grossing romantic comedy to be released in cinemas since Bridget Jones’s Baby came to theatres in 2016.

Anyone But You really caught people’s imaginations, and I think it proved that audiences are still very much interested in going to the cinema to have a good laugh.

One of the things about this movie that really surprised me when I watched it was how funny it actually was.

The movie stars Glenn Powell and Sydney Sweeney. Glenn plays Ben – an employee at Goldman Sachs – and Sydney plays Bea – a law student at Boston University.

They meet at the beginning of the movie, and they end up really hitting off and spending the night together. They have a wonderful night, but when the morning comes, stuff happens, and there’s a huge misunderstanding, and they end up hating one another.

The whole thing is a bit ridiculous, but I’ve watched a whole lot of rom-coms in my time, and this one is definitely a good one. I actually can’t think of any genuinely good ones released in the past decade.

I would argue that Anyone But You is one of the best rom-coms to have been released in the past ten years, and you can now watch the movie on Netflix, which is terrific because everybody is a subscriber to the streaming platform these days.

Glenn Powell and Sydney Sweeney are terrific in the movie. They’re both very funny in the film, and they work really well together onscreen. They have great chemistry, and that is evident in this rom-com.

I didn’t know this before writing this article, but apparently, the movie is very loosely based on Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare.

I’ll be honest: I didn’t get that when I watched it, but now that it’s been pointed out to me, it does make sense.

The movie also stars the likes of Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Hadley Robinson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Darren Barnet, Bryan Brown, and Rachel Griffiths.

Anyone But You was directed by Will Gluck. He’s actually made some of my favourite rom-coms of the past few years.

Gluck directed Fired Up! (which I love), Easy A (which I also think is terrific), and Friends With Benefits, which isn’t great, but it isn’t bad either.

Gluck also directed the live-action Peter Rabbit movies. I haven’t watched those, but I didn’t hear very good things about them.

I definitely think that Anyone But You is Gluck’s best work in years. I really feel as though it’s going to help to bring the rom-com back into cinemas, which is a good thing.

The movie’s script was written by Ilana Wolpert and Will Gluck and it came from a story by Wolpert.
