It’s being rumoured that DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures might end up making a Batman and Joker movie with Ben Affleck and Jared Leto starring in it.
This movie would end up being released on HBO Max according to the rumours, and honestly, I think it’s a great idea.
I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time now, and I couldn’t help thinking that Affleck and Leto were actually really well cast.
Ben Affleck is a great Batman, and he’s shown it in all the DC Comics movies he’s been in.
He’s just been let down by the movies themselves.
As far as Leto’s Joker’s concerned, it was pretty well documented that most of his performance in Suicide Squad ended up on the cutting room floor.
Suicide Squad’s director, David Ayer recently revealed that most of Leto’s Joker was, “ripped out of the movie”, as he put it.
This means that we never really got to see Leto’s true version of the character.
Granted, the Joker we got in Suicide Squad was very, very weird and perhaps rather misjudged.
Do we really need a Batman and Joker movie?
He was just too much of a gangster, yet Leto is a terrific actor.
I’m pretty sure if the writing was spot on and the director had a clearer vision and was properly backed by the studio, then you would end up getting a great Joker performance out of Leto.
I love the idea of seeing a movie, maybe called Batman & Joker, in which Affleck went up against Jared Leto’s Joker.
They could do a take on the incredible graphic novel, Batman: A Death In The Family.
That means that we could end up seeing what happened to Ben Affleck’s Batman’s Robin.
They teased Robin’s death in Batman v. Superman and then they never addressed what happened.
I think there’s enough room there for a movie to explore what happened to Robin.
It would also explain why Ben Affleck’s Batman is so dark.
He’s ready to kill people in the Zack Snyder DC Comics movies, and a Batman & Joker movie would explain why he’s like that.
Will HBO Max releasing Zack Snyder’s Justice League open the floodgates to more DC Comics movies coming to the platform?
Also, with the fact that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is coming to HBO Max, it means that Warner Bros. Pictures and HBO understand how much people love these DC Comics movies.
They love Snyder’s take on the world. It might reignite people’s interest in seeing Ben Affleck and Leto return to these roles.
There are also rumours that David Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad might end up on HBO Max also.
This could open upon up a whole load of new avenues for these DC Comics movies.
They could end up making many more movies based in this rather dark comic book movie universe.
With the Marvel movies becoming more and more humour-based, it might be a good thing to have a darker DC Comics movie universe.
It would be something different and it really does look like Warner Bros. and DC Comics are starting to realise that they don’t have to replicate what Marvel’s been doing with their movies.
Joss Whedon’s Justice League turned out to be a complete disaster.
That was obviously a result of Warner Bros. panicking and trying to go more down the Marvel movie route.
We already have those Marvel movies and we do not need our DC Comics movies to be like them.
Warner Bros. Pictures needs to think of new ways of releasing blockbuster movies
With HBO Max arriving, this offers Warner Bros. a new platform to release movies on, including comic book movies.
Added to that the COVID-19 pandemic, movie studios need to think of new ways to release movies and still make them profitable.
This is going to be a very trying time for the entertainment industry.
Making comic book movies for the streaming space could be an answer.
As far as a Batman and Joker movie is concerned, I do think it’s an interesting idea.
I would love to watch it, but Affleck’s made it very clear that he’s done playing Batman
However, if someone were to write a really great script, he could be convinced to return.
Perhaps that’s what HBO Max and Warner Bros are trying to do right now.
What do you make of this idea?
Would you like to see a Batman and Joker movie on HBO Max?
