It’s been revealed that Amber Heard’s top lawyer, Roberta Kaplan and her team have quit the lawsuit against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
The news was revealed by The Blast, but I got it from CinemaBlend which tends to be a reliable source.
They claim that Amber Heard’s legal team, headed up by Roberta Kaplan but also including John Quinn, Julie Fink, Davida Brook, have quit the Johnny Depp defamation court case.
This is pretty huge news because this case has been very heated and has been going on for what seems like ages.
It’s already cost Depp some acting gigs, and it looks like Heard’s career’s also been suffering somewhat.
This would mostly be due to all the bad press she’s been getting about it over the past few months.
Amber Heard’s top lawyer and her legal team have quit the lawsuit against Johnny Depp
Roberta Kaplan is a pretty well-known lawyer in her field.
She’s associated with the Times Up movement in Los Angeles.
Kaplan also co-founded the movement’s legal defence fund.
However, the defamation case against Amber Heard isn’t taking place in Los Angeles’ courts.
It’s actually all taking place in Virginia, and it’s been revealed that Heard will keep her lawyers over there for the rest of the case.
According to the court documents, Heard is fine with this change and has signed off on everything
She’s now going to be represented by local council rather than her LA lawyers.
Kaplan Hecker and Fink LL cited “travel and logistics” becoming “more costly in light of the pandemic” as the reasons for bowing out.
However, given that airfares and hotel costs are at an all-time, it’s a bit of a strange reason to give.
After the news that Amber Heard’s lawyers were kind of abandoning her, Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman, told The Blast:
Ms. Heard’s lawyers, one of whom co-founded the #TimesUp Legal Defense Fund, have now apparently unhitched from Ms Heard’s long-disproven frauds. We intend to discover why.
