Squid Game Season 2 is coming to Netflix in the not-so-distant future, and it’s been revealed that the upcoming season is going to have one major change from the first season. It was revealed by Squid Game’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, that can expect the second season of the hit series to be quite a different journey for its star Lee Jung-jae’s character.

During an interview with Deadline, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed the following:

The biggest change will be the change of [Lee Jung-jae’s] character. Because he’s a different guy in season 2. You know he turned his hair colour to red, and he became like something more like, serious, more like going for revenge so his character will be totally different.

Lee Jung-jae played Seong Gi-hun in the first season of the new Netflix series. The series quickly ended up becoming the streaming platform’s best-performing series of all time. It has become quite a global phenomenon. It was kind of unbelievable that this Southern Korean series about a bunch of people being forced to play games until they all die apart from one person who would walk away with supposedly “life-changing” money did so well with Netflix subscribers all over the globe.

However, people really seemed to resonate with the series and just wanted to know what was going to happen to Gi-hun. He was quite resourceful during his time in the games and was a relatively timid and flawed character throughout. However, as he progressed through each of the games and managed to stay alive, we saw him gradually toughen up. He also became more and more focused on winning the games and not dying.

The show won a bunch of Emmys!

By the end of the series, we see Gi-hun win the games and then his whole life changes. The series ends with him almost boarding a plane to go and visit his daughter. However, he ends up changing his mind at the very last second in order to seek out who’s still running the games. I’m pretty sure that season two will see Gi-hun do everything he can to end the games once and for all.

Netflix greenlit the series before the recent Emmys. The series ended up winning a bucket load of Emmys on the night. The series was nominated for an impressive 14 Emmys. It ended up winning some. Hwang Dong-hyuk won the Emmy for Outstanding Direction, and Lee Jung-jae won the Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series. The show ended up winning another four more awards. It came away with the Oustanding Production Design award, Outstanding Stunt Performance award, and Outstanding Special Effects in a Single Episode aware. Lee Yoo-mi also won the award for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Ji-yeong.
