New John Wick Spinoff Movie In Development

Further expanding, Lionsgate is developing a new John Wick spinoff movie aside from The Continental series and Ballerina starring Ana de Armas. John Wick’s world is the production company’s “utmost priority” as the franchise proves to be its bluest chip since The Hunger Games.

Potential SPOILERS AHEAD. As such, if you haven’t seen the movie yet, go see it first. Please. Collecting an estimated worldwide box office of $137.5M just over its first weekend, John Wick: Chapter 4 could possibly be the closure Wick has been chasing for.

However, even though the end of the fourth movie seems to put a definitive conclusion to the assassin’s personal quest, John Wick 5 still poses a possibility with one or two caveats from the director, Chad Stahelski and its lead star, Keanu Reeves.

Be that as it may, the world that writer Derek Kolstad began thrives and continues to expand. With the upcoming prequel series titled The Continental and a spinoff movie starring de Armas titled Ballerina, Lionsgate still weaves more stories from Wick’s noir world.

Producer Erica Lee has updated fans of the franchise with regard to the developing projects from Lionsgate that are going to be set in the John Wick universe.

According to Collider, Lee has said that the John Wick franchise as her top priority. She said:

There is another film that we’re developing that I think we’ll be announcing in the next, say, month or two. Then, I’m hopeful there’s a ‘Ballerina 2,’ and ‘John Wick 5,’ and lots of other things. But we’re developing a lot of stuff and having a lot of discussions with a lot of writers and brand management and Wick universe is my utmost priority.

Unlike Lionsgate’s other previous IPs, John Wick has demonstrated a steady, even a bit exponential, increase in popularity and financial standing. Its story is even welcoming for other noir tales focusing on different characters.

John Wick actually has a broad potential for spin-off stories. The characters are well presented, and the audience will be curious and remain curious as to what has happened to them before and what’s to happen to them in the future.

An example of a character is Aurelio—the service provider for the assassins’ cars and other fix-up needs. One can only imagine the vast stories his shop gets to encounter in between ‘jobs’. Another example is the Dinner service staff. In fact, a dark comedy series can be extracted from ‘various services’.

There is also the collection of videos and information that John burned in the first movie. What are those about? What if someone got a copy of those? What kind of stories could they have told?

IMDb reveals what we should expect from these upcoming John Wick spinoff projects. Ballerina, for instance, is a movie that will feature Ana de Armas as the female assassin seeking to avenge her family’s death. Reeves disclosed that the film will take place just before John Wick 4, immediately after the events of John Wick 3. The expected release is in 2024.

Meanwhile, The Continental will be a series set in 1975 New York, where a young Winston fights for his claim of the consecrated hotel. Colin Woodell plays the 40-years-younger Winston and a younger Charon played by Ayomide Adegun. This show will be released this year on Peacock.

The undisclosed new spinoff could also involve a character who was introduced in John Wick 3. Leading the speculation for the possible spin-off is Oscar-winner Halle Berry’s Sofia, together with her own attack fur babies. The Moroccan Continental could be a haven for more than a handful of assassins. Also, her own movie could be a prequel. It could also bring Reeves back as part of the story featuring the blood vow she made with Wick.

Still, as Lee has said, there will be a month or so before anything official will be announced. What do you make of the information that there’s going to be another John Wick spinoff movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
