Waller is moving forward under the DC Slate for Chapter 1, Gods and Monsters. James Gunn breaks the news on Twitter with is video saying his Peacemaker and Suicide Squad gives birth to another spinoff series starring Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

The character teams up with members of the Peacemaker series and will also arrive in HBO Max.

It is a fantastic story that is out of this world and I can’t wait for people to see.

In an article from Deadline, Gunn said:

We’re using the same actors, this is a continuation of Peacemaker. I’m working on Superman, so we can’t do Peacemaker season 2. We’re working on Waller in between.

Definitely looking to expand his own narrative within the DCU, Gunn stresses that actors will portray their roles, and if the project needs it, they will cross from TV to movies and even to DC’s upcoming animated projects.

Gunn announces that Christal Henry is writing the show with Jeremy Carver. In Deadline’s report, the series may lean into being into more adult themes, quite like its predecessors that starred John Cena.

Fans are familiar with Christal Henry’s work on the 2019 Watchmen, where she wrote one episode. She also wrote an episode for 2018, The First.  In 2017, Henry took on the responsibility of being the executive story editor for the 11 episodes of the television series APB.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Carver is one of the main minds behind Doom Patrol, Frequency and Being Human. He also wrote for Prodigal Son and Supernatural, among others. All of these displays his broad experience in what Gunn needs for his ‘out of this world’ description of the spinoff series.

Ever since the success of Peacemaker last year, rumours have been going around that a new spin-off series will happen for the special missions director. It is highly likely that they will showcase the connection she has with her daughter in the other series.

Given that she is the director that decides who will be in Suicide Squad, there will be quite a number of rag-tag characters at her disposal. That may even be cruelly literal for her.

Gunn’s excitement reflects what fans can expect, knowing that Peacemaker could very well have given them a sneak peek into the director’s own series.
