Is Matt Smith Playing Ezra Bridger In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker?

So, here’s a hot take. Could Matt Smith be played Ezra Bridger in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker? I really think it could be possible, and let me tell you why.

Now, after having watched the trailer, the first thing that really popped up to me was that the ship from Star Wars Rebels, Ghost, was in the trailer, just behind the Millenium Falcon.

First off, yes. I love seeing the Ghost in battle. The ship also appeared in Rogue One, but we didn’t get to see what it got up to after that.

It seems as though it survived that battle because it’s now in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.

I then started thinking a bit more about it, and the same question kept on creeping up on me – who’s flying the Ghost?

Could it be Ezra Bridger? I really hope it is, because I think he really does need a live-action version of Ezra.

He’s such a great character from Star Wars Rebels and has been suspiciously absent from the live-action movies.

How could a Jedi of such power as Ezra merely remain in the shadows for so long? Could The Rise Of Skywalker be his time to shine?

Then, I started thinking, if Ezra is in the movie, could Matt Smith be playing him? I mean, why not. He’d be as good an actor as any to play the role, and he could definitely be aged up to play the character.

Matt Smith’s involvement in the movie is also a bit of an enigma. We’re still not sure if he’s in the movie or not, despite having been put down on the original cast list on Star Wars’ website, the actor claimed he was not in the movie.

“As far as I know, I’m not [in it],” Smith told Variety after it had been reported that he’s going to be in the movie.

There are a whole load of other new cast additions including Richard E Grant, Keri Russell and Lost and Lord Of The Rings’ Dominic Monaghan.

Some people thought that he might be playing a new character, which was teased in one of the official Topps trading cards coming out for the movie.

This new character has blue scaley skin and is wearing a masked helmet, and some people think he resembles the British actor.

Now, maybe he does. However, I really like the idea of him playing Ezra, because he’d be great in the role, and we need to see the character be brought to the big screen.

It’s been long enough, and we now know that the Ghost is going to be in the movie, so why not add another Rebels cameo with Matt Smith as Bridger.

It would also be fun to have another Force user on the scene and help Rey and Kylo against Palpatine.

We don’t know what happened to Ezra and Thrawn at the end of Star Wars Rebels, so perhaps they could both end up coming back together, which would be interesting.

The addition of the Ghost also means that Hera Syndulla could end up turning up in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.

There’s even the possibility that Matt Smith could be playing Thrawn, and if anything, that could be even more plausible.

Smith does have that almost regal look to him, and he’d look good as the former Grand Admiral. It would then confirm people’s suspicions that he’s playing someone close to the Emperor.

Thrawn returning would be a huge nod to the fans of Star Wars Rebels and the Thrawn books, which are brilliant by the way.

Moreover, I keep on thinking, why keep Matt Smith’s involvement such a big secret? The only possible answers is that he’s either not in the movie at all, or he’s playing a character which will be a big deal for fans to see on the big screen.
