Halfway through Season 2 of Netflix’s Locke And Key and FINALLY it’s getting good. This episode (Locke And Key Season 2 Episode 5) has been a long time coming. A great story and secrets are revealed, which made for some great viewing. I am finally getting excited about this season. In this episode, Tyler hunts for the memory key to try and help Duncan who is still struggling. While Kinsey discovers some shocking truths while in Eden’s head.

We start this episode of Locke And Key Season 2, Duncan (Aaron Ashmore) still struggling to understand the new memories of magic that keep coming back to him. As a result, he has shut himself off from the rest of the family and worked on his car as a way to distract himself. He is concerned that he is going well and it’s quite obvious that Duncan is really struggling. However, there is hope for Duncan in this episode as the location of the memory key is discovered. Tyler (Connor Jessup) goes in search for the key, with Gabe (Griffin Gluck) following along.

Gabe and Eden (Hallea Jones) decided that it’s time to get Kinsey’s music box and control her. However, Gabe sees an opportunity to try and get close to another Locke who appears to be the only living Locke who knows how to create new keys. Gabe is running out of ideas and it seems that something has changed within Gabe. He doesn’t want to harm Kinsey (Emilia Jones) in any way. I do wonder how this gradual change of heart will affect him later on. Especially now as his secret is out.

Watching Duncan at the end was quite shocking, and I did wonder for a moment if he was going to make it. The ending was shocking and also quite emotional, but I’m excited to see how different Duncan might be now his memories are back and he is more stable. I wonder how much involvement Duncan will have now. I assume he knows a lot more about the keys than anyone else. So hopefully we can learn more about the keys.

DODGE IS REVEALED!

While Tyler and Kinsey help Duncan, Bode (Jackson Robert Scott) uses the anywhere key to visit his friend Rufus in Nebraska. They talk about the events from the end of season 1, where Dodge attacked Rufus and his mother Ellie, in order to gain control of the Shadow Crown. Rufus surprises Bode by telling him that he can briefly remember seeing two versions of Dodge during the attack. During this scene, both actors had a great dynamic together. However, for the seriousness of the scene, I did find Jackson Robert Scott delivery of his lines a bit underwhelming. This was a high-intensity moment, which didn’t have the impact it should have had because the delivery of the lines let it down.

Alongside this, Kinsey sees Eden at a party getting drunk. They go off together for a chat, Eden thinks she is being clever and is going to do what Gabe can’t. Yet, really Kinsey has her own ideas. Kinsey uses the head key and goes into Eden’s mind. Scott (Petrice Jones) and Kinsey discover that Eden’s mind is slowly being corrupted and she is being controlled by something else. While in her mind, the pair discover that Dodge is Gabe and using the face key. Kinsey finally realises that her boyfriend is a demon.

This is where Emilia Jones shines. Once she discovers Gabes true identity the emotion that she is feeling is obvious and well performed. We end this episode with Kinsey telling everyone else her discovery and Gabe is at the front door. Jones puts on a great performance at the end while the tension increases.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR FOR NINA AND JOSH?

Alongside this, Nina (Darby Stanchfield) goes to the next step in her relationship with Josh (Brendan Hines). It’s nice that Nina is moving on and growing from her grief. These characters seem to make a cute couple, their relationship is growing. I feel more invested in Josh and Nina already than I do with Tyler and Jackie.

This fifth episode of this second season is a huge step up in terms of story and execution from what we have been watching beforehand. The Locke’s have discovered how wrong they were at the end of season 1. They know now that they threw Ellie aka Rufus’ mother into the portal and not Dodge. I do wonder what has happened to Ellie in the portal and can she now be saved now the Locke’s know their mistake. Big secrets have revealed finally and I’m really excited to see what will happen next, and I can’t wait to watch the next episode.
