Lando Star Wars Series Reportedly Dead At Lucasfilm

It’s being reported that the Lando Star Wars series has been cancelled over at Lucasfilm, which means we won’t get to see Donald Glover play the role again. Glover played the role in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The series was announced by Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy, a long time ago now, and since then, there’s been no real movement on the series. Back in 2022, Kennedy told CinemaBlend at Star Wars Celebration the Lando series was basically waiting for Donald Glover, and development had come to a standstill.

Here’s what Kennedy had to say about the project back in 2022:

You need to ask Donald. He’s the one that holds all the cards here. But there’s no movement.

She then went on to explain that Glover was (and is) a very busy man. He’s already working on a bunch of different projects such as the Mr. & Mrs. Smith series for Amazon Studios. At the time, he was also working on FX’s Atlanta show. However, that’s now come to an end.

Glover created the show and starred in it, and he also wrote and directed many of the series’ episodes, so it’s understandable that that show took up a lot of his time. He’s also the creator of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith series, which he’ll also be starring in.

Anyway, according to Giant Freakin Robot’s sources, the Lando show is now officially dead at Lucasfilm. It seems as though Glover just lost interest in the opportunity to return to the Star Wars universe as Lando Calrissian, which is a shame.

He was perfect in the role and was one of the real highlights of the Solo: A Star Wars Story movie. So, it looks as though Lucasfilm has also now opted not to move forward with the show.

They have a lot of other shows to work on, and they are also gearing up to make more Star Wars movies. The Andor show has also proven that Star Wars fans are looking for something different from their content set in a galaxy far, far away.

Andor was a show that didn’t focus on ‘legacy’ Star Wars characters (apart from Mon Mothma). It told a very different story from the ones we’ve become used to seeing from the Star Wars universe and also introduced a new side of the galaxy.

We’ve got a second season of Andor coming up, as well as The Mandalorian Season 3, the Ahsoka Tano show, The Acolyte series, and there have been reports that Bo-Katan might be getting her own show. It’s also been revealed that Lucasfilm is now going to be making Star Wars movies again.

We’ve got Kevin Feige’s super secret Star Wars movie. There’s the Taika Waititi Star Wars film and the Rian Johnson new trilogy is supposedly still in development. However, it sounds as though Johnson’s project might not end up moving ahead over at Lucasfilm.

We’re going to have to wait and see as far as that new trilogy goes.
