What’s going on with Invincible Season 2? Fans of the animated series Invincible have much to look forward to as the show’s creator, Robert Kirkman, promises an expansive storyline for the upcoming season. With the first season setting a solid foundation, the second season is poised to take viewers on an even more thrilling journey, delving deeper into the universe and introducing new characters that will challenge Mark Grayson’s superhero identity.

The Growth and Evolution of Mark Grayson

The overarching narrative of Invincible revolves around the maturation of Mark Grayson as he transitions from adolescence to adulthood, and possibly even into his later years. As Kirkman mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the second season will focus on Mark’s growth, depicting his struggles and triumphs as he matures.

“The overarching story of Invincible that’ll continue from season [one] to season [two] is about the growth and change that Mark goes through as he moves from a teenager into adulthood and possibly even into old age. So in season two, we’ll see him maturing and growing up a little bit,” Kirkman told the publication.

The Looming Threat of the Viltrumites

I think Invincible season one is a clear representation of what you’re going to get from this show, but overall season two is going to feel much bigger than season one.

With Omni-Man’s sudden departure and the revelation of the Viltrumites’ menace, Earth is left in a state of heightened anxiety. The absence of Omni-Man, who turned from protector to threat by the end of the first season, leaves a void and a lingering sense of dread, making the Viltrumite threat a central plot point in Invincible Season 2.

Kirkman’s Vision for Season 2

In that interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kirkman expressed that while the first season was a clear representation of the show’s essence, the upcoming season promises to be much grander. The overarching narrative will continue to focus on the protagonist, Mark Grayson, and his journey from adolescence to adulthood. With challenges, growth, and perhaps even glimpses into his later years, Mark’s evolution promises to be a central theme.

The Absence of Omni-Man and the Looming Threat

Omni-Man’s departure at the end of the first season left fans with more questions than answers. His revelation about the Viltrumites’ intentions and the impending threat they pose will be a focal point in Invincible Season 2. With Omni-Man no longer safeguarding Earth, a pervasive sense of dread is set to permeate the series.

Invincible Season 2 will also introduce fans to several new heroes and villains. Among them is Sterling K. Brown’s character, Angstrom Levy, described as a brilliant but unhinged individual who can travel between different dimensions. According to Kirkman, Angstrom Levy is poised to become one of the central antagonists in the upcoming season.

“It’s a villain that if [Invincible] were able to use his strength, could defeat very easily,” Kirkman explained about Invincible season 2. “He’s gonna have to try to outsmart him instead of just beating him up. So it puts him in a position where everything he’s learned doesn’t really work for him so far,” he added.

The Coalition of Planets and the Viltrumite Threat

The overarching story of Invincible that’ll continue from season [one] to season [two] is about the growth and change that Mark goes through as he moves from a teenager into adulthood and possibly even into old age. So in season two, we’ll see him maturing and growing up a little bit.

The inaugural season introduced audiences to The Coalition of Planets, an intergalactic alliance formed to counteract the menace of the Viltrumite Empire. With characters like Allen the Alien, voiced by Seth Rogen, playing pivotal roles, the Coalition’s significance is set to grow. Kirkman hints at an “opening of the universe” in the upcoming season, suggesting a broader cosmic playground for the characters.

New Faces and Formidable Foes

Invincible Season 2 is set to welcome a slew of new characters. Notably, Sterling K. Brown will voice Angstrom Levy, a genius with the ability to traverse different dimensions. Kirkman teases that Levy will emerge as a central antagonist, challenging Invincible in ways physical strength alone cannot overcome.
