The Umbrella Academy Season 2 landed on Netflix earlier this year and it got pretty good reviews.
Many people – myself included – thought Season 2 was better than the first.
However, it has to be said that some people weren’t so keen on it.
That said, it was still rather odd that Netflix didn’t announce Season 3 as soon as The Umbrella Academy Season 2’s reviews were in.
I got to speak to Jeremy Webb a few weeks before Season 2 was released, and he seemed very optimistic that Season 3 was going to happen.
Here’s what Jeremy told me about The Umbrella Academy Season 3 on our official podcast, Small Screen Stories:
We’re hoping that we’re going to get a third season of The Umbrella Academy, which is highly likely I think. And, obviously, some scripts have been written and I’m very much hooked into being involved in that again and interesting in doing that.
Jeremy then added:
So, the conversations that I’ve had are, ‘I this happens and we figure this out…’ I mean, there’s a lot of ‘If, if if’, but we’re hoping that to the subject to it being renewed getting into that in the fall, the autumn time.”
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 is happening
So, it definitely sounds like things were in place before Season 2 aired for Season 3 of this very popular TV show.
I’ve now been informed by multiple sources that The Umbrella Academy Season 3 has been given the greenlight by Netflix’s bosses.
That means it’s now all steam ahead on the next season.
There might be an official announcement sometime in October.
However, one of my sources told me that one of the main reasons why Netflix has been keeping quiet on Season 3 is because of COVID-19.
They are still trying to figure out the logistics and make sure they would be able to have a safe set for the cast and crew.
This is going to be an issue for all future Netflix shows, so that is probably why we haven’t heard much about any of their future series.
