Avatar 2 Has Wrapped Filming And Avatar 3 Is 95% Shot

It’s been revealed that Avatar 2 has finished filming and that Avatar 3 is 95% shot, so we should be seeing these films soon.

This news was revealed earlier today by Variety who’s sources informed them that the Avatar sequels are almost all finished filming.

They filmed Avatar 2 and 3 at the same time and managed to continue filming throughout the pandemic.

They did this by shooting most of the movies in New Zealand which was announced to be Coronavirus-free before anywhere else.

They then opened up the country to productions such as Avatar 2 and 3.

That said, they’ve now recorded a few more Coronavirus cases, so they might end up going back into lockdown sometime soon.

Cameron offered the updates during a video chat with former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who starred in Cameron’s The Terminator, as part of the 2020 Austrian World Summit.

Disney announced back in July that it had moved the Avatar sequels back a year.

This means that Avatar 2 is now set for December 16th, 2022 and Avatar 3 is now slated for release on December 20th, 2024.

Avatar 4 will come two years after that on December 18th, 2026 and that will be followed by Avatar 5 on December 22nd, 2028.

Here’s what Cameron said about the upcoming Avatar movies:

COVID hit us like it hit everybody. We lost about four and a half months of production. As a result of that, we’ve rolled around one more full year for a release in December of 2022. That’s been announced already. Now that doesn’t mean I have an extra year to finish the film because the day we deliver Avatar 2, we’ll just start working on finishing Avatar 3. So where we are right now, I’m down in New Zealand shooting, we’re shooting the remainder of the live-action. We’ve got about 10% left to go. We’re 100% complete on Avatar 2 and we’re sort of 95% complete with Avatar 3.
