The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2 (that’s a mouthful) has started filming, and we here at Small Screen cannot wait to watch this second season. We’re currently waiting for Episode 7 of the first season to be released on Prime Video, but we’re already thinking about the second season, and it’s been revealed that they’ve started filming it already.

Production on the second season of this hit Amazon series has started production in the United Kingdom. This was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter. They’ve stated that the second season is now filming, with the production based at Bray Studios outside of London, in the UK. The first season of the series was shot in New Zealand. They actually shot the first season in the same location as Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. However, Amazon has opted to shoot the second season in the UK and other locations away from New Zealand.

According to The Hollywood Report, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is also set to introduce a new character in its second season. This new character is called Círdan. The character has not been cast yet, however, the character is described as one of the oldest and wisest elves in Middle-earth. That sounds very interesting, to me at least. It seems as though Amazon has pretty huge plans for this series.

They’ve definitely spent a lot of money on this series already, and they’re planning on spending a lot more. They have already committed to a five-season production plan for this new series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s work. They are reportedly spending at least $1 billion on the series.

Here’s the official synopsis of The Rings of Power, courtesy of Amazon:

This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

Amazon Studios is producing the series in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners and executive producers on the series.

The show’s cast consists of Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman. The series is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
