J.J. Abrams Is Still Developing A The Shining Spin-off Series For HBO Max

It’s been revealed that J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, is still developing a The Shining spin-off series for HBO Max. This news is very much welcome to us here at Small Screen since we are all massive fans of Steven King, The Shining, J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot.

HBO head Casey Bloys revealed this news in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (via Dread Central). Here’s what he had to say about the HBO Max The Shining spin-ff series:

We haven’t seen anything. I’m excited to see it. They seem encouraged and happy, but I don’t have any update other than they’re busily working away at Bad Robot.

It might be a bit strange for some people that there’s a The Shining spin-off series coming, especially after we just got Doctor Sleep. Doctor Sleep was directed by Mike Flanagan and was based on King’s book of the same name. That book is a sequel to The Shining.

However, it sounds like this The Shining series on HBO Max will be something different. It won’t be a sequel because it won’t feature the same characters in The Shining. It’s more a show that’s set in the same world as King’s book.
