We have got our official first look at Hayden Christensen’s return to the Star Wars universe as Darth Vader. Exclusively obtained by Entertainment Weekly, the image is taken from the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

It sees Vader standing what appears to be his meditation chamber, that we saw in The Empire Strikes Back.

Obi-Wan Kenobi series will depict a “very powerful” Vader

Obi-Wan Kenobi is set in the years since Obi-Wan was betrayed by his apprentice Anakin Skywalker.

With the Jedi being essentially all but vanquished, the Empire is on the rise.

Furthermore, Obi-Wan is being ruthlessly hunted a force-sensitive Inquisitor named Reva.

Speaking on his return to the role, Christensen teased that fans can expect a powerful Sith Lord:

We’re going to see a very powerful Vader.

As to whether we will see Vader without his helmet in the series, Christensen was tight-lipped:

I wish I could tell you. I’m sworn to secrecy.

It is so pleasing to see Christensen get another chance to play this role, especially given the less than favourable reaction he received following his appearances in the prequels.

It is not yet known if legendary actor James Earl Jones will reprise his voice role as Vader.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will be helmed by Deborah Chow.

Alongside McGregor and Christensen, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie are all on board to star.

It begins streaming on Disney+ on May 25.
