There’s a new Alien movie in the works, and the film’s official plot synopsis has been revealed, and I am really excited to watch this picture! This all comes after it was revealed that the movie’s working title is Alien: Romulus.
The film is being directed by Fede Alvarez. He’s the person who gave us the likes of the Evil Dead remake and Don’t Breathe, which I thought were two really good horror movies. He seems to understand the horror genre, and I think he might be the perfect person for the job of bringing the Xenomorph back to the big screen.
Ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, people have been wondering what their plans might be for the future of the Alien franchise. Before the acquisition, Fox had just released Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant movie, which wasn’t incredibly well received by fans, moviegoers and critics.
It ended up being a bit of a disappointment. That said, there were some good moments in the movie. However, I thought that there were some very good moments in the previous Alien film that Scott directed, Prometheus. I actually think that Prometheus is a much better Alien movie than people gave it credit for at the time.
The new Alien movie’s official plot synopsis has been revealed
Here’s the movie’s official plot synopsis, courtesy of Variety:
While the premise for the yet-to-be-titled movie has been kept under wraps, the studio did reveal that the film will follow “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
It’s also been revealed that the movie is going to start filming on March 9th, which is tomorrow as of writing this article. The movie is going to be filmed in Budapest, which is the capital city of Hungary. A lot of movies are shot over there because I think the production gets very good tax breaks by filming in the Hungarian capital.
The movie is going to star the likes of David Jonsson (Industry), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (Rosaline), Spike Fearn (The Batman) and Aileen Wu (Away from Home).
However, the movie’s lead is going to be Mare Of Easttown star, Cailee Spaeny, although we know very little about the character she’s going to be playing in the movie.
When will the movie be released?
Fede Alvarez, who’s the director, also wrote the movie’s screenplay. He’s also going to be serving as a producer on the film. Ridley Scott serves as an executive producer with Michael Pruss (Our Friend), and the film is being made under the Scott Free banner. Scott and Pruss are joined by producers Brent O’Connor (Bullet Train), Elizabeth Cantillon (Persuasion) and Tom Moran (The Donut King).
Things are moving along very quickly with this movie, but we still don’t have an official release date for the film. That’s to be expected. I reckon the movie will be released in late 2024 – early 2025.
