When Will Locke And Key Season 2 Be Released On Netflix?

Locke and Key Season 1 took Netflix viewers by storm in early 2020 and people are already desperate to know when Season 2’s release date will be.

The show is based on a comic book series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez.

It didn’t have the easiest of journeys to finally landing on Netflix.

It looked like for a while that Netflix wasn’t going to make the show.

However, they ended up putting up the money to get it made.

Since it’s landed on Netflix, viewers the world over have been loving the new show.

The show is currently the second most popular Netflix original in the UK.

It sits behind The Stranger and is in front of To All The Boys: P.S. I Love You.

That’s not bad at all considering The Stranger is a Harlan Coban series which are very popular in the UK.

The previous Netflix Coban adaption, Safe, which stars Dexter’s Michael C. Hall, is currently back in the top ten most-watched Netflix shows.

That’s crazy considering it was originally released back in 2018.

So, yeah, Locke And Key Season 1 has done pretty well on the streaming service and it’s likely to be renewed for a second season.

That said, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed the show yet and therefore haven’t revealed Locke and Key Season 2’s release date.

This isn’t unusual for the streaming service. They tend to wait at least 30 days before renewing or cancelling any of their shows.

They like to collect all the data possible before doing anything. I have a feeling Locke and Key’s data will be impressive.

Carlton Cuse, Locke and Key’s executive producer, explained during a recent interview with Collider that we won’t find out whether Season 2 will happen until early March.

However, he also revealed that the show’s writers are already all set up for Season 2.

“Although Netflix has not picked up season 2, and their policy is not to do that until they have 30 days of data on the show, they have paid for a writers’ room,” Cuse said back in January before the show was released.

This means they’re already in the process of writing or at least coming up with the story for Season 2.

This is really positive and means they’re confident the show will be renewed for a second season at least.

“We’re in the middle of writing season 2, so we’re optimistic and hopeful that we’re gonna get a chance to make Season 2,” Curse said.

“We very much know what it is because Meredith [Averill, executive producer] and I are in the middle of overseeing the writers’ room and we’re working on that right now.”

As for what Locke and Key Season 2’s story, it seems as though it’ll be heavily inspired by the comics.

“There definitely are stories left in the comics that we want to hold onto, to use in future seasons,” Cuse revealed.
