A lot’s been written about Jeremy Renner of late and his future as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
There’s been a lot of speculation about what will happen to Jeremy Renner following the recent allegations made against him by his ex-wife as they fight a difficult child custody battle.
Some people thought – myself included – that Disney and Marvel Studios might want to distance themselves away from Renner, and there had even been talk of possibly recasting Hawkeye in the MCU.
However, it’s been revealed that Disney has now put Renner up for consideration at the Oscars for his performance as Hawkeye in Avengers: Endgame.
Could this mean that Disney and Marvel Studios are going to stand by their man? Possibly.
I am going to be honest, I was surprised when I learnt that Disney had done this. I mean, Renner’s good in Avengers: Endgame, but is his performance really Oscar-worthy?
Is Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye performance Oscar-worthy…?
I’m not so sure it is, yet Disney seems to think so, and I have my fingers crossed that Renner will end up getting nominated in the Supporting Actor category.
Disney has put Avengers: Endgame into almost every single Oscar category including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography.
Disney has also entered the movie for the Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Score categories.
It’s bound to win some of those Oscars. Perhaps the more technical ones. But none of these Marvel movies have ever been up for Best Picture or Best Actor and Actress awards.
It seems as though 2020 might be DC Comics’ year as Joaquin Phoenix is the runaway favourite to win the Best Actor category, and it looks like Todd Phillips might be nominated for Best Director and Joker the movie could get nominated for the Best Picture award.
