Idris Elba Reportedly Studio’s Top Choice To Be James Bond

It’s being reported that Idris Elba is the studio’s top choice to play James Bond now that Daniel Craig is no longer playing the role.

This rumour has been swirling around the trades for quite some time now.

One of the outlets reporting on Elba being the studio’s top choice to play Bond has been FandomWire.

An insider reportedly stated the following:

Idris has long been in talks to play a role in the next era of James Bond’s story and last year was being considered for a role as an antagonist. However, talks surrounding him playing the lead have started again as producers realized how popular he would be after carrying out secret market research. He ranked highly among the diverse group of movie buffs invited to participate in it. They didn’t want to see him as a nemesis, they want him as the hero.

Elba was definitely on Sony Pictures’ radar to play Bond back when they distributed the movies.

Former Sony Pictures chief, Amy Pascal, indicated in internal emails that they should get Elba to play Bond.

This news came from those Sony hacked emails.

However, now that the Bond franchise is under new a new banner – specifically Amazon Studios after they acquired MGM Studios, they might be looking at a younger actor for the role.

Fans of James Bond have said time and time again that Elba would be perfect, but he is too old.

Elba is currently 49 years old. Daniel Craig is 54 years old now and he’s just finished playing the character.

It seems as though if they were to hire Elba, it would only really be for one or maybe two movies.

Amazon Studios might be more interested in getting an actor that could play the role for a decade or more.

The last I heard was that Idris Elba was in talks to star in the next movie, but as the villain.

I think that would actually be quite interesting and I wouldn’t be against the idea of seeing Elba play the movie’s villain.

As for him playing Bond, Idris Elba has stated himself that he’s not going to play the role.

“No, I’m not going to be James Bond,” he said during the premiere of his Netflix film, The Harder They Fall.

There are so many names being attached to the James Bond role.

We were informed that Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey was being eyed for the role.

Other candidates include the likes of Richard Madden, Sam Heughan, Henry Cavill (who was almost cast before Daniel Craig got the role) and Tom Hardy.
