In a thrilling revelation, it’s being reported that the acclaimed director David Fincher is set to helm a new sci-fi epic for Netflix, with the talented Margot Robbie eyed for the lead role.

The film, reportedly titled Serenity’s Edge, promises to be a mind-bending psychological thriller that will undoubtedly captivate audiences worldwide. This news comes to us via Giant Freakin Robot.

Serenity’s Edge is described as a psychological thriller set aboard a spaceship on a mission to explore a distant planet. The lead character, whom Fincher hopes will be played by Robbie, begins experiencing strange occurrences and discovers bizarre secrets during the journey. These experiences cause her to question reality, setting the stage for a gripping narrative that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

This project sounds like the perfect fit for Fincher, the mastermind behind iconic films such as Fight Club and Se7en. While details are limited at this point, Serenity’s Edge seems to draw inspiration from spacefaring thrillers like Interstellar, Ad Astra, and even Alien.

This report comes to us after it’s been reported that Fincher is also going to be working on a Se7en series for Netflix, which sounds like yet another interesting project. However, we here at Small Screen are just desperate for Fincher to be able to make Mindhunter Season 3 for Netflix. That said, it seems as though that project might be dead in the water.

He’s also rumoured to be Netflix’s top choice to direct the upcoming US remake of Squid Game. However, that news hasn’t been confirmed yet.

David Fincher may not be the first name you think of when it comes to sci-fi, but his feature directorial debut was 1992’s Alien 3. He had to wait another three years before the world became much more familiar with his name after the premiere of the game-changing crime thriller Se7en.

Before then, he was known chiefly as a music video director, working with artists like Madonna, Nine Inch Nails, Billy Idol, The Rolling Stones, and Michael Jackson.

Fincher’s relationship with Netflix is not new. He signed a four-year exclusive deal with the streaming giant just before the debut of his Oscar-winning film Mank. Since then, he’s directed an episode of the animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots and his neo-noir film The Killer — starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton — is set to premiere on the platform soon.

Fincher has done much more work for Netflix as a producer since signing the four-year deal. He’s been a producer on the series Voir, last year’s documentary Is That Black Enough For You?!?, the upcoming biopic Lange, and the Chinatown prequel series.

The acclaimed director enjoys a longer history with Netflix than most. Considering he was an executive producer on House of Cards — one of Netflix’s first original hits — and directed the first two episodes of the series, you could argue David Fincher was instrumental in transforming the streamer into an original content powerhouse. He went on to work as director and producer on Netflix’s Mindhunter.

David Fincher’s next Netflix film, Serenity’s Edge, is shaping up to be a thrilling sci-fi adventure with Margot Robbie potentially leading the cast. While we eagerly await more details about this exciting project, it’s clear that Fincher’s partnership with Netflix continues to produce intriguing and high-quality content. As we learn more about Serenity’s Edge, we’ll make sure to keep you updated.
