Beverly Hills Cop 4 is happening, and it’s just started filming! It’s been nearly 30 years since we saw Eddie Murphy in the role of Axel Foley. He first graced our screens in a Beverly Hills Cop back in 1984. Yet as you read this, we are just a few days away from a return.

In a recent interview, iconic producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that production was beginning before the end of August. Beverly Hills Cop 4 will see Axel Foley in a completely different world, in both LA and Detroit and the film will be released via Netflix. No confirmation on if previous cast members such as Judge Reinhold will be returning to the team, but you have to think core cast members from the original trilogy like Reinhold will be a part of it.

However, this isn’t the first reboot attempt or return for the franchise we’ve seen in recent years. Beverly Hills Cop, the series shot a pilot back in 2013-2014 and even featured Eddie Murphy returning in the first episode, with Brandon T Jackson taking the lead role. But before the pilot could get any further, it was dropped and not picked up by CBS due to Murphy not taking a full-time role and only agreeing to appear in the pilot, which executives weren’t keen on.

We’ve seen in the past year a huge success with a return to a prior 80’s classic with Top Gun: Maverick. Could Beverly Hills Cop 4 have similar success? Only time will tell. Murphy himself has had somewhat of an acclaimed career return of late despite the box office bomb that was Coming 2 America. Here’s hoping Beverly Hills Cop 4 is more of a return to form than a box office bomb.

This isn’t the first time they tried to bring back Axel Foley

Eddie Murphy has been trying to get back into Hollywood’s good books of late. He’s been in some pretty good movies recently. Yes, Coming 2 America didn’t do brilliantly well on Amazon Prime Video. However, it does seem as though fans appreciated the sequel. We also saw Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name which I thought was really good. That movie was released on Netflix and received pretty good reviews from the critics, and it seemed as though subscribers enjoyed the movie.

Eddie Murphy is also going to be starring in a new movie called You People. The movie is being directed by Kenya Barris, which he co-wrote with Jonah Hill. The film is a comedy and will star the likes of Jonah Hill, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lauren London, Sam Jay, Molly Gordon, Mike Epps, Nia Long, Deon Cole, Rhea Perlman, and David Duchovny. It’s set to be released on Netflix next year.
