Star Wars Creator George Lucas Has Issued A Heartfelt Statement On David Prowse’s Death

We were met with the terrible news that Darth Vader actor David Prowse passed away and people involved in the Star Wars movies have been paying their respects to the actor. One of those people was Star Wars creator, George Lucas who issued a very heartfelt statement of Prowse after his passing.

Here’s what George Lucas had to say about David Prowse’s passing:

David brought a physicality to Darth Vader that was essential for the character. He made Vader leap off the page and on to the big screen, with an imposing stature and movement performance to match the intensity and undercurrent of Vader’s presence. David was up for anything and contributed to the success of what would become a memorable, tragic figure. May he rest in peace.

Lucas is right. Prowse did bring a physicality to Darth Vader that I do not believe many other people would have been able to. Prowse is a huge part of what made Darth Vader so memorable and just so terrifying.

You can read the statement George Lucas made over at Star Wars.com, and he wasn’t the only person in the Star Wars family to share their condolences to Prowse’s friends and family.

Darth Vader is one of the moment memorable and famous villains of all time. Not just on-screen, but in all media and it’s such a shame to hear that the man who helped bring that character to life is no longer with us.

All I can say is thank you to David Prowse. Thank you for being a huge part of my childhood growing up and creating a character I and Star Wars fans across the globe will never forget.
