The film will focus on Shang-Chi, a martial artist who is seeking to escape his past, namely the Ten Rings organisation, led by his father.

And for those critics who have seen the film, the film has been very warmly received:

Writing for SlashFilm, Hoai-Tran Bui stated:

Ultimately, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a great origin story in a franchise that has more origins than any other.

In her review for Gizmodo, Nancy Wang Yuen wrote:

Shang-Chi—as the first Asian American superhero to headline a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—is a necessary and worthy addition to the pantheon and Hollywood as a whole.

In her review for Empire Magazine, Laura Sirikul commented:

Featuring funny and endearing moments amid beautifully choreographed action sequences, Shang-Chi excels as a story about family and how it can be twisted by grief.

Writing for JumpCut Online, Nguyen Le was full of praise for the action:

At last, here is a director who knows martial arts is the core of the material, so Cretton ensures Shang-Chi’s action department will get full credit.

By these early reactions, it’s looking like Shang-Chi will be the next hero to take the MCU by storm.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi is set to open in cinemas on September 3rd.
