Jeffrey Dahmer Series Gets Biggest Netflix Audience Since Stranger Things

Jeffrey-Dahmer-Netflix-Series

It seems as though Netflix subscribers just cannot get enough of Jeffrey Dahmer! It’s been revealed that the new Ryan Murphy series, Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, drew a huge audience on its launch. It ended up being watched by 196.2 million people who’ve all tuned in to watch the new series in since its launch on September 21st. These numbers come to us via Deadline.

This means that this new series from Ryan Murphy is one of the very best-performing shows on Netflix since it changed the way it reports ratings figures in June 2021. The only shows that are ahead of the new series are Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, Stranger Things Season 4 and Bridgerton Season 2. The limited series also ended up beating shows such as Inventing Anna, which opened with 195.97M viewers, and You Season 3, which scored 179M.

This isn’t the first series that Ryan Murphy has made for Netflix. He’s made other shows such as The Politician (September 2019), Hollywood (May 2020), Ratched (September 2020) and Halston (May 2021). They all did pretty well on the streamer. However, it’s hard to get data on how well these shows did because Netflix didn’t really report its data back then. However, that’s changed now, and it seems as though The Jeffrey Dahmer Story did significantly better on the platform than all of those shows.

The show stars Evan Peters as the serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, and I have to say that he is brilliant in the series. He’s creepy and terrifying, and honestly, I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing a better job in the role than he did. He’s worked with Murphy in the past, having starred in several seasons of American Horror Story. In this new series, the story is told largely from the point of view of Dahmer’s victims. It dives deeply into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a multiyear killing spree. The series dramatizes at least ten instances in which Dahmer was almost apprehended but ultimately let go by the police.

The series also stars the likes of Niecy Nash, Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald and Michael Learned. The show comes from Murphy and Ian Brennan, who created it and executive produced it alongside Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Evan Peters, Janet Mock, and Carl Franklin.
