Mahershala Ali Reveals Marvel Was Developing Blade Series Before He Was Cast

Mahershala Ali will be playing Blade in the MCU, however, he recently revealed that the plan was to make it a series before he joined the project. Just to clarify, Blade will be a movie in the MCU, not a movie. That said, a Blade TV show would be an excellent idea if you ask me.

I was overjoyed when I learnt that Mahershala Ali had been cast as Blade in the MCU. It really is perfect casting, and they also announced that a Blade movie was in the pipeline. However, that apparently wasn’t always the plan.

According to Mahershala Ali himself, Blade was intended to be a series before he came on-board. He revealed this information during a recent interview on the podcast, The Tight Rope.

Here’s what Ali had to say about Blade being developed into a series before he joined the project:

So, in doing that show [Luke Cage], the day it premiered I turned to my agent and I said, ‘What are they doing with Blade?’ Because I kept hearing that they were trying to find a way to remake it and put it back together, and it was exciting for me to get to be in that Marvel space in TV, but for me, my goal had always been film.

Sounds like Mahershala Ali was always very keen to play Blade. However, he had no intention in playing the character in a TV series. It would have been probably for Disney Plus, yet I’m, glad they’re making it a movie.
