It’s been revealed that Johnny Depp’s libel case appeal has been denied by Justice Nicol and he’s now being ordered to pay The Sun almost $1 million in legal fees. This news comes to us from The Times.

This all comes after Johnny Depp lost his libel case against The Sun newspaper in the UK. He was suing the paper after they labelled the actor as a “wife-beater” in an article written by Dan Wootton. It was then revealed that Johnny Depp was asked to step down from the role of Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. That role has now been filled by Mads Mikkelsen, which is actually pretty good casting if you ask me.

According to The Times, Depp and his legal team have been denied an appeal by Justice Nicol who wrote in his ruling that their case doesn’t have a “reasonable prospect of success.” It was also revealed that Depp has to pay an initial £628,000 in legal fees to News Group Newspapers.

However, this doesn’t mean that Depp can’t still appeal Justice Nicol’s ruling. It’s more a sort of procedure thing. They basically have to go through this step in order to appeal, and it also gives the judge a chance to look over the case again and say that they are confident they didn’t make a mistake.

Depp can now begin his appeal to the Court of Appeals if he wants to keep on going down this route. However, it’s not clear what he and his legal team want to do moving forward. Depp still has a bunch of legal battles against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, in the US, and he might want to just focus on those. Johnny Depp is pretty much all wrapped up in what has become a pretty big legal mess and it’ll be interesting to see what he decides to do regarding his lost libel case against News Group Newspapers in the UK. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
