Indiana Jones Series In The Works For Disney Plus

It’s been revealed that Lucasfilm is working on an Indiana Jones series which is going to be made for Disney Plus, and I think it’s a great idea. This news was revealed by Variety, and the Internet’s blown up since the news was revealed. I’ve actually seen both negative and positive reactions to this news. Some people claim that an Indiana Jones series is a terrific idea. However, other people have claimed that there’s no Indy without Harrison Ford, and I understand that sentiment.

Harrison Ford recently revealed that after the fifth Indy movie, he’s going to be done playing the character. However, Disney still owns the IP and has the rights to use the character in video movies, movies and TV shows. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear that they and Lucasfilm are planning on making more content involving the character. There have been rumours of an Indiana Jones series for quite some time, but it’s now been officially confirmed that it’s in active development.

Here’s what Variety had to say about this upcoming Lucasfilm and Disney project:

The Mouse House and Lucasfilm have specifically been bringing up the possibility of a streaming show set in the world of the globe trotting archaeologist in general meetings with writers of late, sources say. They are still looking for a writer to take on the project, thus no plot details are available. Given that, it is unknown if a series would serve as a prequel to or spinoff of the film franchise, or if it would tie into the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones film, similar to how Disney has tied its Marvel shows on Disney+ into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So, it sounds as though they are looking for writers and possibly a showrunner for this new series. It’s not certain whether this series will be a sequel or a prequel. However, what we do know for certain is that Ford will not be in the show. He’s made it very clear that his time playing the role is coming to an end.

What I would love to see is something akin to the The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, which was a series that aired on ABC in the United States from March 4t, 1992, to July 24th, 1993. The show starred Corey Carrier, who played Jones between the ages of 8 and 10. He was then followed by Sean Patrick Flanery, who played Jones from the ages of 16 to 21. Then we got to see Harrison Ford turn up as Jones for one episode.

Throughout the whole show, George Hall played a 93-year-old Indy. It was a fascinating series and it was unfortunately cancelled because it cost too much money and didn’t have a large viewership. After the show was cancelled, four made-for-television films were produced from 1994 to 1996. This was an attempt to continue the series. In 1999, the series was re-edited into 22 television films under the title The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones.
