It’s official! Sam Raimi has confirmed that he will be directing the upcoming Marvel movie, Doctor Strange 2 after Scott Derrickson left the project.
He revealed this whilst promoting his new Quibi series 50 States of Fright.
During a roundtable interview with journalists (via GamesRadar), Raimi announced his involvement in Doctor Strange 2.
“I loved Doctor Strange as a kid,” he said.
“He was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me.
“He was probably number five for me for great comic book characters. He was so original,” he added.
Raimi then added: “When we had that moment in the first Spider-Man movie, I had no idea we’d be making a Doctor Strange movie.
“So it was really funny to me also, coincidentally that line was in the first Spider-Man movie.
“I wish I had the foresight to know I was going to be involved in the project,” he finished.
It is a shame that Derrickson won’t be getting to make the movie he’s been involved in his the beginning.
Sam Raimi is officially making Doctor Strange 2
That said, it’s pretty exciting to see Sam Raimi return to the world of comic book movies.
Some could argue that Raimi is the reason comic book movies are as popular as they are today.
Before his Spider-Man films came out, comic book movies weren’t very good.
They were in the same place that video game movies find themselves in today.
They were pretty much considered a joke and now they’re these huge blockbuster events that everybody goes to the cinema to watch.
I just hope that he’ll be able to make a great movie with Doctor Strange 2.
I was looking forward to seeing a more horror-based comic book movie, which is what Derrickson was intending on making.
Hopefully, that aspect of the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel has remained intact.
Raimi has a huge background in horror movies, so I would assume Doctor Strange 2 will be a horror comic book film.
