It’s being reported that Harrison Ford is going to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to the new report from The Ankler insider Jeff Sneider (via The Hot Mic Podcast), Harrison Ford will be replacing William Hurt as General Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie.

William Hurt has played General Ross ever since the MCU began. However, not too long ago, Hurt passed away, and it looks like Marvel Studios has opted to recast the role, with none other than Harrison Ford. According to Sneider, this is something that they sorted out months ago, and they wanted to announce the news at this year’s D23 Expo. However, Sneider revealed that Lucasfilm’s President, Kathleen Kennedy, didn’t want the announcement to be made.

Sneider revealed this on The Hot Mic podcast, and he revealed that the Ford recast is a “done deal”. He added:

They actually wanted to announce him as a cast member in Thunderbolts at D23. But they didn’t because Kathy Kennedy put her foot down and said, ‘No, we’re going to keep the focus on Indiana Jones 5.’

So, it turns out that Kathleen Kennedy really wanted to spoil the MCU party, which is such a shame. It would have been such a great thing to announce, and I know that so many fans of the MCU would have loved to have seen Harrison Ford come up on stage and then Kevin Feige would announce that he’s playing General Ross in future Marvel movies, including the Thunderbolts film.

Kathleen Kennedy didn’t want anything to take away from the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 movie, and it seems s though she thought that having Marvel reveal that he was going to be playing General Ross in the upcoming Thunderbolts film. It’s a shame that she felt that was the case. I do understand where she was coming from, but I do think there was room for both at this year’s D23 Expo.

Well, I suppose we’re going to have to let bygones be bygones as far as this news is concerned. We know now that he will be playing General Ross in the upcoming Thunderbolts film. The team in the upcoming Marvel movie will consist of Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and of course, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and David Harbour as Red Guardian.

The movie is being directed by Jake Schreier, and I think that having Ford play General Ross is a great idea and pretty good casting.  Thunderbolts is set to premiere on July 26th, 2023. It’s easily one of the upcoming MCU movies that I’m looking forward to the most.
