It’s been revealed that Something Is Killing The Children is being made into a series for Netflix from the Dark series creators. The show will be based on Boom! Studios’ comic book series.

I’m a massive fan of the comic books, and I actually didn’t even know that there was a possibility of a Netflix series. It would make for a really interesting and pretty scary show, and Netflix, I think, is onto a real winner here.

Dark creators, Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, have signed a pretty big eight-figure deal with Netflix and Boom! Studios are the showrunners and creators of this new series.

The German writer-creators, who most recently made 1899 for Netflix, are now going to start working on bringing this comic book to life on the small screen. Given their history, I think that Odar and Friese are the perfect fit for Something Is Killing The Children.

The comic book is pretty dark in which a small town plagued by monsters that eat children and reveals a mysterious young woman who has the special powers to combat the creatures.

Here’s the full synopsis:

When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless. Most children never return, but the ones that do have terrible stories—impossible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows.

Their only hope of finding and eliminating the threat is the arrival of a mysterious stranger, one who believes the children and claims to see what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters.

The comic book is Boom! Studios and co-created by DC Comics writer James Tynion (Batman) and Werther Dell’Edera. The comic series is one of the most successful original English-language comic series of the last five years, selling more than two million copies worldwide and winning multiple Eisner Awards including the 2022 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series.

Its spin-off series, House Of Slaughter, sold more than 500,000 copies of its first issue. It became the #2 highest-selling non-Marvel, non-DC comic of the last 25 years, which is pretty darn impressive.

Boom! Studios’ Stephen Christy and Ross Richie are executive-producing the adaptation, with co-creators Tynion and Dell’Edera co-executive producing. Interestingly enough, Doctor Sleep’s duo, Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan, were attached to the project a couple of years ago. However, Netflix ended up going in a different direction.

That said, I feel Flanagan leaving Netflix might have something to do with the fact that he and Macy are no longer involved in this project.

According to Deadline, this new Netflix deal for Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese will see them working very closely with Peter Friedlander and Bella Bajaria’s U.S. and global TV teams focusing on English-language projects.
