It seems as though Robert Downey Jr. might have just teased his return to the MCU as Iron Man, a.k.a. Tony Stark, which would be a complete 180.
After Avengers: Endgame it did seem as though Robert Downey Jr.’s time in the MCU was over.
Before you read on, there’s a big SPOILER for Avengers: Endgame coming up in this article.
Then again, if you haven’t watched Endgame yet, then I don’t really know what you’re doing here.
Tony Stark very sadly passes away in the movie, very heroically of course.
Since then, people are still hopefully that Downey Jr. could return to the MCU in the future.
It seems as though there might still be hope after the Russo Brother’s recently Avengers: Endgame watch party.
Robert made a surprise appearance during the watch party and he opened up on his feelings about the movie a year following its release.
Robert Downey Jr. could still return to the MCU as Iron Man
At the end of their conversation, Joe Russo said: “Maybe we’ll have to do this again someday.”
Downey Jr. then responded by saying: “The people will move us toward what they want.”
You can see the exchange in the video right here, and it happened at the 21-minute mark.
It really does seem as though Downey Jr. is open to the idea of returning to the MCU.
His return to the MCU would be huge, but there is the possibility that he was just being polite.
I’m just happy that he didn’t respond by saying: “Nope. Never going to happen”.
