It’s being rumoured that Netflix is seriously thinking of greenlighting The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 after the first season performed so well on the streaming platform. This rumour comes from supposed insider Daniel Richtman, so maybe take it with a pinch of salt.
Now, this is in no way meant to be a dig at Daniel. I think this could very well be on the cards over at Netflix. However, the first season of The Queen’s Gambit was only ever intended to be one seasons. It’s a kind of one-and-done affair.
However, The Queen’s Gambit Season 1 was so popular that Netflix might just have to make a second one. It would be them ‘leaving money on the table’ if they didn’t. That said, I’m not sure how it could happen given the way the show ended. Yet, if there’s a will, there’s a way.
Netflix is rumoured to be thinking of making The Queen’s Gambit Season 2
The Queen’s Gambit was based on a novel by Walter Tevis and it’s since become the single most popular scripted limited series in the company’s history. It was watched by 62 million households, and it had the fifth-largest debut of all time on the streaming platform.
The only shows that did better than The Queen’s Gambit in their debut season were Tiger King, The Witcher, Money Heist Season 4 and Stranger Things Season 3. So, the show is keeping pretty good company. It featured an incredible lead performance from Anya Taylor-Joy who’s just going from strength to strength.
