Joaquin Phoenix has commented on rumours regarding a sequel to his 2019 film Joker (aka, Joker 2).
In an interview with The Playlist, the Oscar winner addressed rumours surrounding the prospect of a sequel.
The film focuses on a failed comedian’s descent into madness, before becoming the iconic Batman villain, known as Joker.
However, Phoenix has admitted he’s completely in the dark about any developments.
Phoenix has no idea if Joker 2 will happen
Written and directed by Todd Phillips, the film was a massive hit at the worldwide box office.
It grossed $1.074 billion and was nominated for 11 Oscars, winning two for Best Actor and Best Original Score.
When asked by The Playlist about a sequel he said:
I mean, I dunno. From when we were shooting, we started to —you know, uhh, this is an interesting guy. There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know.”
That sounds like a pretty conclusive answer on Phoenix’s part.
The actor is currently promoting his new film C’mon C’mon, as well as working on Disappointment Blvd, the new film from Ari Aster.
Therefore, the ball is clearly in Warner Bros’s court to make that sequel happen.
