Ranking the Star Wars Movies From Best to Worst
With today being May the Fourth (May the Fourth be with you), I thought it was about time to rank the Star Wars films from best to worst…
The Star Wars saga has been a big part of my life. Along with the Bond franchise, Star Wars is one of the main reasons behind my love of cinema. I still remember watching my very first Star Wars movie (A New Hope), on VHS at my Granny’s house. I was enthralled, enraptured and enamoured (three words that basically mean the same thing, I know, but, I loved it that much), by what was happening on the television screen in front of me. I quickly started collecting the toys, I still have a model T-47 Airspeeder at home.
Luke, you can destroy the Emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny. Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son.
As a child, I was used to watching very colourful TV shows in strange and beautiful locations (Pingu, Postman Pat, The Magic Roundabout, Thomas the Tank Engine, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlett…), yet nothing quite grabbed me as Star Wars did. I loved the setting, loved the story, loved the characters, loved the vehicles, the strange creatures, and of course, the lightsabers. It was just so ‘cool’ to me as a child, and it still is today.
I still enjoy rewatching the original trilogy, the animated TV shows, playing the video games, watching the new films, and I even sit through the prequels on occasion (if I feel like being a completionist). I eventually met people who shared my love of the space opera saga, and we started playing Trivia board games together based around the Galaxy far far away. I would often lose because, despite being a huge fan of the franchise. I have a memory like a sieve and could never remember the names of obscure characters and vehicles in the films.
Apparently, he has a map that leads to Luke Skywalker and everyone’s after it.
But I’m better now, mainly because I’ve become seriously invested in the new Marvel comics, and have watched the films enough times. I can even do a pretty decent impression of Alec Guinness’ iconic line: “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.” I’m also quite proud of my Yoda, “Do or do not, there is no try.”
But that’s enough reminiscing. It’s time to get ranking. So without further ado, here is my list of Star Wars movies ranked from best to worst:
- Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
- Star Wars: A New Hope
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Rogue One
- Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
- Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith
- Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
- Star Wars: Attack of the Clones
