Amidst the development of the new DC slate, fans get an update from director Zack Snyder, and they are convinced that Justice League 2 is coming. Fans have clamoured for the Snyderverse to get restored in the DC slate for years. With the success of the #releasethesnydercut online for Justice League, a new hashtag surfaced, which was #restorethesnyderverse.

Somehow, it seemed that the studio had conducted a volleyball game of possibilities for fans of the Snyderverse. When Snyder bowed out of the Justice League movie and let Joss Whedon finish off in 2017 for personal reasons, fans knew a better version in his cut was out there.

After four years of persistence, Warner Bros released the Snyder Cut through HBO Max and the fans were overjoyed. Zack Snyder’s Justice League was able to serve up a better story than the movie. This further fueled the fans’ drive to push Warner to deliver Snyder’s vision.

Snyder’s development of characters in his movies for DC Films at the time, now DC Studios, is still relevant today. Even in the currently running Shazam Fury Of The Gods, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman has a welcome cameo. One that was hoped to push ticket sales of the movie for its first-weekend run.

For the movie’s marketing to use Wonder Woman’s cameo meant that Snyder’s vision still resonates with fans. There are even people online saying that the movie is using the Snyderverse to strengthen its box office strides.

All of a sudden, on his own Twitter account, Snyder posts a brief video with the caption

The video displayed the words over static audio:

Incoming transmission… from Lord Darkseid.

Immediately, the voice of Darkseid spoke:

April 28th, 29th and 30th. Save the date.

This immediately sent Snyder fans into a frenzy. The use of the name and the voice clearly promises a follow-up to the filmmaker’s vision of the World’s Finest Superheroes. Indeed, his story still has a lot of loose ends that will welcome his way of providing closure.

Many fans have expressed that they understood that the Snyderverse is due to be replaced. However, they also believed that the director’s universe deserved its closure. Snyderverse fans kept hoping that the director would at least have been given the chance to finish his story.

Prior to the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs of the newly minted DC Studios, reports have stated that Warner Bros Discovery CEO tried to offer it to Zack Snyder. However, the filmmaker is already deeply involved with his space opera Rebel Moon on Netflix that he simply did not have the time.

However, fans grew more hopeful when Henry Cavill returned to his Man of Steel mantle for Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. People thought if not Snyder at the helm, maybe his story could still continue but just with different directors and writers behind his grand design.

When the new co-CEOs were appointed, Gunn displayed that he was on good terms with the director as well as with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Somehow, these developments made fans believe there is hope for the Snyderverse to survive the transfer of leadership in the studio.

James Gunn hasn’t completely doused these flames with cold water yet. A new Superman is in development for the new DC slate, which is now being referred to as the DCU. More disappointments came for fans of the Snyderverse when Cavill himself officially announced that he was no longer Superman “…after all.”

By the end of January, DC Studios presented the initial titles for Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters for the DCU. While this excited DC fans, a good fraction of the population was saddened by the seeming finality of the end of the Snyderverse. It was good while it lasted. And fans have started to move on from the possibility of getting a sequel to Zack Snyder’s vision. Some are more difficult than others.

With Snyder posting this development on Twitter, hope springs again for the Snyderverse fans that the story will continue. Without much detail as to what fans can look forward to on the stated dates, fans still marked their calendars looking forward to favourable news.
