Who watches the Watchmen…? Answer: everybody should be. Watchmen on HBO is easily one of, if not the best, TV show on TV at the moment, and Episode 4, called ‘If You Don’t Like My Story, Write Your Own’, just proves that fact.

The episode really does a lot to ratchet up the levels of intrigue and mystery which were already pretty high before this episode aired.

So far, Watchmen has been drip-feeding us with little snippets of information about what’s really going on, but then it just adds a whole load of other questions which need answers.

Episode 4 sees Regina King’s Angela Abar, who also goes by the name of Sister Knight when she’s in her Police getup, back at the forefront of the story.

The previous episode introduced Jean Smart’s FBI agent, Laurie Blake, who used to be Silk Spectre II back in the day, and she now catches vigil-antes for a living.

Angela is still trying to figure out who really is behind Judd Crawford’s (played by Don Johnson) death, and also learn more about her family’s past.

This episode also introduces us to the very strange Lady Trieu (Hong Chau) and with her introduction comes yet another host of questions.

This is what this show does so well. It just keeps on adding more and more and as viewers, we just can’t stop watching and asking questions.

It’s really a testament to Damon Lindelof and his team of writers how much the show makes us invested in the characters whilst telling us relatively little about what’s really going on.

We only really get snippets of conversations, tiny slices of information, and this is what makes the show so clever and groundbreaking.

Watchmen keeps on getting better and better

It’s storytelling at its very best because it makes you think and doesn’t take its audience for fools.

The show’s writers have enough faith in its audience to work things out for themselves.

A good example of this are the Adrian Veidt scenes, in which the man formerly known as Ozymandias desperately tries to figure out a way to break free of wherever he is.

I and quite a few other viewers were able to figure out that he’s actually on Mars, and we did that with very little information, but we listened to what was being said and paid attention.

That’s what Watchmen makes you do. It makes you listen and you don’t want to miss a single word, a single frame or a single story beat.

HBO keeps on making great TV shows, and Watchmen is probably the best

This isn’t the type of show that you can just turn on and watch whilst looking at your phone. In other words, this isn’t a Netflix show.

This is proper television. This is properly smart and well-thought-out TV, and that’s what I believe come the end of Season 1, Watchmen will be considered to be one of the best TV shows of the year, at least, that’s the way it’s looking at the moment.
