When Will The Mandalorian Be Released In The UK?

I can’t think of a Star Wars fans who isn’t excited to see Jon Favreau’s upcoming Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. However, most people over here in the UK still aren’t sure when The Mandalorian’s UK release is, which isn’t very good considering it’s only days away from being released in the US, Canada and The Netherlands.

The show will star Pedro Pascal as the titular character, however very little is known about what will happen in the series which really has been shrouded in mystery since the very beginning.

We do know one or two things about the show. We know that the series will be set between Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We also know that the show will follow Pascal’s bounty hunter, known only to us as The Mandalorian, through the galaxy. We will get to see him do a bit of bounty hunting and he’ll be joined by a droid, IG-11.

That’s about it really. The rest is pure speculation. I’ve heard some people claim that The Mandalorian will be a character we’ve been introduced to before.

I’ve heard others say that he and IG-88 could be teaming up together. But, we really don’t know because Disney’s been keeping everything under lock and key.

They’ve even been keeping The Mandalorian’s UK release date a closely guarded secret.

We already know that we won’t be getting to watch the series at the same time as our American cousins since Disney Plus isn’t going to be made available here in the UK until God knows when.

Our best guess is that Disney Plus and The Mandalorian will hit the web here in the UK at the same time.

As for when that will be, that’s a harder question to answer.

The only real word we’ve had on a UK release date of The Mandalorian was a tweet from Star Wars UK, which said that the show will be available to stream early 2020.

However, early 2020 could range from the 1st of January till about April. It’s a pretty big release window.

So, many people here in the UK and other parts of the world where Disney Plus still won’t be available will be asking themselves whether there’s another way to watch the show at the same time as in the US.

The short answer to that question is that you won’t be able to do it legally.

I can imagine that a lot of people are going to stream or download the show illegally, which isn’t cool, but Disney isn’t really giving people much choice in the matter.

The fact that we can’t watch it when it’s released in the US means that there’s going to be a lot of spoilers on the Internet from day one.

So, UK audiences have two options. Either stay off the Internet until Disney Plus comes to the UK (which isn’t very practical), or find another, perhaps slightly illegal way, to watch The Mandalorian.

It’s not perfect, but it’s going to have to do until Disney can sort this mess out, and it is a bit of a mess. Disney Plus should really be available to everyone the world over at the same time.

As for the show itself, The Mandalorian’s first season will consist of eight episodes, and they’ve been directed by a very interesting crop of directors.

Here are the episodes with their directors and US release dates:

  • Episode 1 (Directed by Dave Filoni) – 12 November
  • Episode 2 (Directed by Rick Famuyiwa) – 15 November
  • Episode 3 (Directed by Deborah Chow) – 22 November
  • Episode 4 (Directed by Bryce Dallas Howard) – 29 November
  • Episode 5 (Directed by Dave Filoni) – 6 December
  • Episode 6 (Directed by Rick Famuyiwa) – 13 December
  • Episode 7 (Directed by Deborah Chow) – 18 December
  • Episode 8 (Directed by Taika Waititi) – 27 December

They’ve been rather clever with their US release dates since the show’s seventh episode comes out a few days before Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is released, so people will be primed and ready to watch the movie.
