Teen Titans Go! To The Movies Review
Director: Peter Rida Michail and Aaron Horvath
Starring: Greg Cipes, Scott Menville, Khary Payton, Tara Strong, Hynden Walch, Will Arnet and Kristen Bell
Teen Titans Go! To The Movies is the latest superhero animated movie to come from Warner Bros Animation and it could very well be their best yet.
The film follows the Teen Titans but in particular Robin who’s desperate to get his own superhero movie.
However, he’s not taken seriously by his superhero peers because he’s just a sidekick, and we all know that they never make movies about sidekicks.
Yet, Robin is determined to make his Hollywood dream come true, and along with his fellow Teen Titans, he goes on an adventure to try and get the Robin movie made.
The first thing he needs is a good arch-nemesis, which is where Will Arnet’s Deathstroke, a.k.a. Slade, comes in.
There was a Green Lantern movie… but we don’t talk about that.
The film is a pure joy, both visually and with its barrage of jokes that come at a very brisk pace.
The film’s irreverent tone is arguably its biggest strength and brings to mind the recent Deadpool movies.
Yet, I would go as far as saying that it’s slightly funnier than the Ryan Reynolds led superhero vehicle and manages to poke fun at DC Comics in a more imaginative and creative way.
It’s especially nice to see DC poke fun at their own movies, in particular, the recent films from the DCEU (or whatever they’re calling it these days).
It’s a great animated film which is fun for both kids and adults and everyone will get something out of it.
There may be one too many butt jokes for my liking, yet it’s a really charming picture which would make for a fun family trip to the cinema.
