Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’s Oscar Isaac Reveals He Wishes Poe And Finn Were Gay

There was a lot of speculation back when Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out that Poe Dameron and Finn could end up becoming a couple, but it looks like that’s not going to happen in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.

That’s a huge shame because I was one of the many shipping the two male characters, and it would have been great to have seen the first openly gay couple in Star Wars history.

Anyway, it turns out that actor Oscar Isaac who plays Poe wishes the same thing, and he opened up about it all during an interview with Variety.

Here’s what the actor had to say on the matter:

Personally, I kind of hoped and wished that maybe that would’ve been taken further in the other films, but I don’t have control. It seemed like a natural progression, but sadly enough it’s a time when people are too afraid, I think, of…I don’t know what. But if they would’ve been boyfriends, that would have been fun.

It certainly would have been fun, Mr. Isaac, and also it would have made a lot of sense because the two of them definitely shared a unique bond.

However, actor John Boyega who plays Finn was keen to stress that the two characters “are just platonic at the moment,” although the British actor then added: “They’ve always had a quite loving and open relationship in which it wouldn’t be too weird if it went beyond it.”

Director J.J. Abrams has also had his bit to say on Poe and Finn’s relationship, and he argued that their bond was “a far deeper one than a romantic one.”

The director continued: “It is a deep bond that these two have, not just because of the trial by fire in which they met, but also because of their willingness to be as intimate as they are, as afraid as they are, as unsure as they are, and still be bold, and still be daring and brave.”
