Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker: John Williams Starting Work On The Score Next Month

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is almost upon us and fans cannot wait to see what J.J. Abrams has in store for them, and it’s been revealed that John Williams is starting to score the film next month.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker isn’t the far off from release and they’re starting to give us fans a little bit of information on what’s to come in J.J. Abrams’ picture.

The Rise Of Skywalker will be the last in this latest Star Wars trilogy, and it’ll also be the last Star Wars film scored by the legendary John Williams.

Williams has been scoring these films since the very beginning and he’s a big part of why they are so revered. People just love listening to his music and he’s able to create incredible tension with just a few notes.

Yet, after The Rise Of Skywalker they’re going to have to find a new composer for these Star Wars blockbusters, and Williams’ shoes will not be easy to fill.

It’s now been revealed via an article published on LinkedIn (yeah, I find that strange too…), that Williams will begin scoring the film next month, which means that they must be close to having a final cut of the film signed, sealed and hopefully, delivered.

“Sandy DeCrescent celebrates 50 years as an orchestra contractor,” the article reads.

“At one point she worked with 43 of the most talented TV and film composers in Hollywood. Today, she is still selecting the musicians and managing the orchestras for composer John Williams, who will be recording Star Wars in June (2019), and for composer Randy Newman who just finished recording Toy Story 4.”

The article also offers insights in how Williams approaches scoring a movie, and this one is going to be a big one for him since it’ll be his last time scoring a Star Wars movie.

“Some movies are only two or three days.” DeCrescent revealed.

“It’s all about the number of minutes of music and how fast a composer goes without sacrificing any quality. John Williams does 15 minutes every three hours,” DeCrescent explains.

She continues: “Sometimes he has a hard day and he only does 14. I’ve seen him do 17. He is the most incredible person, he’s organized, he’s a great conductor, and it’s all laid out so perfectly.”

Meanwhile, Abrams opened up about how they came up with the script for this upcoming Star Wars film and he revealed that they had a long chat with the franchise’s original creator, George Lucas, whilst coming up with the story for this final film of the new trilogy.

“There have been a lot of ideas since the beginning, since George first came up with this, of where things could go,” director J.J. Abrams explained in a recent interview with MTV News.

“We had a meeting with him before we even wrote the script about this. So a lot of what we have taken, is really taken to heart, everything that’s come before. While it’s been obviously significantly challenging, it’s been a greater opportunity than a challenge. I cannot wait for you to see what this movie is.”

The Rise of Skywalker will see the likes of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) and Lieutenant Connix (Billie Lourd) all return to the Star Wars saga.

Carrie Fisher will also be returning as General Leia Organa in the film, through the use of archival footage.

They all be joined by new cast members including Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Matt Smith, and Dominic Monaghan.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is set to hit UK cinemas on December 19th, 2019.
